Thanks for your question. We have passed it around our networks and hope you get some useful responses.

If you can't find a way to have the operation in a public hospital in Melbourne, one option could be to travel to Sydney, if a suitable surgeon who works in the public system can be found.

You could contact The Gender Centre in Sydney to see if they know of any surgeons. FTM Australia might also be able to help. Both of these organisations are listed in ZBGC's Resources Directory

We wish you the very best of luck.

I have heard that Dr Anne Pike in Sydney has done hystos for transmen. Not sure if she works in the public system or not (I'm not from Sydney) but you could enquire about it. Here are her details:

Good luck

It's a horrible situation not to get this under health care when there's apparantly risks of cancer/other health risks after a certain amount of time on T without having a hysto

PS As well as Dr Anne Pike, there is a further Sydney-based gynecologist mentioned in another question on this Q&A site: "Any trans-friendly gynecologists in Sydney?"

Unfortunately it is very difficult to get a hysto in the public system in Melbourne at the moment. The Womens Hospital has recently refused a patient despite support from all the medical staff. As an alternative I still think that Dr Grover is a good option and her costs even in the private system are quite reasonable and affordable as long as you have private health insurance.

Another option is to approach one or more gynecologists who do hysterectomies in the public health system and ask if they'd be willing to operate on you. I just did a quick Google search and found, for example, this surgeon:

Perhaps Sonia Grover might know some surgeons too.
