Welcome to ZBGC's Questions and Answers website. Thanks for your question.

We unfortunately don't know of any medical practitioners in the Mildura region with experience in FTM health. We've passed your question around our networks but haven't come up with any responses and it may well be that there is no appropriately qualified person in the Mildura area.

Did you know that Medicare has a scheme to improve access to medical specialists for people who live in rural or outer metro areas? This can be through telemedicine (e.g. using programs like Skype) or through subsiding patients' travel. Check out these links:

1) Telehealth: www.mbsonline.gov.au/telehealth

2) Transport assistance: www.health.vic.gov.au/ruralhealth/vptas/

If you decide to travel to Melbourne for your care, you can find trans-friendly medical clinics listed in our Resources Directory

Please also see this answer at our old Questions and Answers website. It has other resources that may be of use.

Another option is to try seeing a medical practitioner in your area and asking if they are willing to be 'skilled up' in FTM health issues. There is a very good guide that you can pass onto medical practitioners that will give them lots of useful information. It's called Medical Therapy and Health Maintenance for Transgender Men: A Guide for Health Care Providers.

We wish you the very best of luck and please don't hesitate to post further questions  to this site.

PS Your question has inspired us to push harder to find more regional listings in our Resources Directory. In the new year, we will put out a call to get more regional listings.

Finally, ZBGC recently received some good news. We've received funding for 4 years to provide information and training on transgender issues to youth programs for same-sex attracted and/or gender questioning people. This will also involve working with these programs to provide training and information to mainstream providers in the community, health and education sectors. The work will include regional locations. We hope that we can improve the isolation experienced by transgender people, including people outside of Melbourne, and skill up more practitioners in Victoria.

Call up PMC or Northside to see if they have any contacts...when doctors go on long service leave, the replacement doctors have gotta come from somewhere...and when my replacement doctor at PMC wasn't there anymore and I wanted him to become my regular one, they clinic said he came from Bendigo or somewhere near there if I remember correctly

Useful advice. Thanks for responding!

To the original poster/asker: PMC refers to Prahran Market Clinic. Both Prahran Market Clinic and Northside Clinic are listed in ZBGC's Resources Directory:
